Job Description

Robe River Kuruma Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC is seeking an

Independent Director

Robe River Kuruma Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (RRKAC) was established in 2013 (then Kuruma Marthudunera Aboriginal Corporation) as the corporate entity for the RRK people. The RRK people have traditional rights to an area covering nearly 16,000 square kilometres in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, and RRKAC is the Prescribed Body Corporate for the Part A and Part B Robe River Kuruma Native Title Determination areas covering nearly 10, 000 square kilometres.  RRKAC is pivotal in progressing the broader interests of the RRK people, and in representing them in their dealings with governments and private industry. 

The RRRKAC’s strategic focus is to work together as a community to establish a solid foundation towards independence, community wellbeing and cultural identity. In 2018 RRKAC was awarded finalist in Reconciliation Australia’s National Indigenous Governance Awards, and in 2019 was awarded Top Three Finalist in the Pilbara Community Services Excellence Awards for Outstanding Commitment to Best Practice in Member Support and Development.

RRKAC is looking for a dedicated Independent Director to replace an outgoing director who has reached the end of their term. In addition to this immediate appointment, we aim to establish a pool of qualified candidates for future opportunities across the Robe River Kuruma Group.  The RRKAC Board of Directors are looking for Independent Directors who are committed to working collaboratively towards a shared vision through strong leadership, excellent management, effective partnerships and innovative thinking. Trust, respect and commitment to culture, community and relationships are at the core of our foundation. 

Ideally, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • A minimum of 3 years board experience preferably with an entity governed by the Corporations Act/and or CATSI Act
  • Completed or willing to complete the AICD course
  • Demonstrated understanding of financial analysis, budgeting and reporting principals
  • Familiarity with governance frameworks, regulatory standards, and risk management practices
  • An understanding of the Native Title Act and Aboriginal Heritage Act and an understanding of Aboriginal Communities particularly within the Pilbara would be beneficial but not essential
  • A commitment to ethical leadership, diversity and inclusion
